Robert Saleh Boasts About How Jets Defense ‘Embarrassed’ Another Top QB After Win Over Eagles
The Jets upset the Eagles on Sunday, taking down the last undefeated team that remained in the NFL.
New York's defense was the star of the show, forcing four turnovers including three interceptions of Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Jets held the Eagles offense scoreless in the second half of the game.
Speaking with media after the win, Jets head coach Robert Saleh had some bold words to describe how his defense was playing of late.
"Thought defense, per the usual, outstanding," Saleh said. "Through these first six weeks we’ve played a gauntlet of quarterbacks and I know we haven’t gotten all wins, but we’ve embarrassed all of them. Just really, really proud of the defense and its resolve."
Saleh has reason to be proud of his defense so far this year. The gauntlet of quarterbacks he described playing against to start the year included Josh Allen, Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and on Sunday, Hurts.
The Jets held Allen and the Bills to just 16 points in a Week 1 win, and gave Mahomes and the Chiefs a scare two weeks ago, holding them to 23 points. After losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers just four plays into the season, few would have picked the Jets to jump out to a 3-3 start to the year, but New York has leaned on their defense and done just that.
Saleh also took another shot as he walked off the podium. "They ain't 12-0 no more!" Saleh could be heard saying, referencing the fact that the Eagles had been 12-0 against the Jets heading into Sunday's contest.
If the Jets defense can keep playing hot, New York is in line to rattle off a few more wins in the coming weeks, with matchups against the Giants and Raiders on the horizon. Far from a "gauntlet of quarterbacks" to face in those games.
