Saints quarterback Derek Carr got heated during Thursday night’s frustrating home loss to the Jaguars, barking at coaches and teammates alike in sideline outbursts during the 31-24 defeat.

Afterward, Carr explained that he wasn’t proud of the incidents and intends to project a steadier demeanor moving forward.

“I have been showing my emotions a little too much on my sleeve,” Carr told reporters. “I have got to kind of chill out, and that’s me holding myself accountable because that’s not going to help anything. Just trying to be a calming influence in these moments, especially during moments of heightened frustration. I can be that presence to calm everybody down.”

The Saints managed just three field goals through the first three quarters of Thursday’s game before breaking through with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. New Orleans coach Dennis Allen vented his frustrations with his offensive unit after the game.

“I think that’s frustrating,” Allen said. “That is probably one of the things I’m most frustrated about is just that part of that inconsistency. We have got to somehow, someway, we have to get those guys on the same page. There’s a lot that goes into that.”

The Saints have been held under 21 points in five of their seven outings this season, and even with 24 points on the board on Thursday night, there was a lot left to be desired offensively.

Carr threw a pick-six midway through the fourth quarter put the Jaguars ahead, 24-9. New Orleans was able to rally and tie the game at 24, but a 44-yard touchdown strike from Trevor Lawrence to Christian Kirk on a drag route proved decisive.

The Saints are now 3-4 on the season and head to Indianapolis a week from Sunday to take on the Colts.
