Cranky Sean Payton Explains Why He Was Grumpy Despite Broncos’ Win Over Packers
Sean Payton picked up his first home win as coach of the Broncos on Sunday.
Denver held on to defeat the Packers, 19-17, with safety P.J. Locke’s timely interception snuffing out Green Bay’s final drive.
In addition to the Broncos’ earning their first victory of the season at Empower Field at Mile High, Denver ended a streak of 10 consecutive losses after leading at halftime. Although it was a much-needed win for Denver (2-5), Payton wasn’t satisfied afterward.
“That was a good win for us and yet I’m driving home last night, heading to get sushi—I don’t like sushi—and finding myself circling around the parking lot, ‘Why can’t I be happy?’ Well, you’re searching for that perfect game. I’m just that way,” Payton said Monday, per Mike Klis of KUSA-TV.
Locke secured the late-game turnover in the place of starting safety Kareem Johnson, who received his second ejection of the season following a hit against a defenseless receiver during the fourth quarter.
The Broncos (2-5) play host to the Chiefs (6-1) on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
