Giants’ Brian Daboll on Saquon Barkley Trade Rumors: ‘That’s Not Happening’

Giants coach Brian Daboll threw water on the idea of the team trading away star running back Saquon Barkley before the Oct. 31 trade deadline when speaking to the media on Wednesday.

“That’s not happening,” Daboll said.

Barkley told reporters last week that he didn’t want to get traded.

“Sitting here, everyone knows how I feel,” Barkley told reporters Thursday. “I don’t think anyone in their right mind would want to get traded anywhere. It’s not an easy thing to do. You have to move. I have a family. I would love to be here. But like I said, it’s not in my control. My focus is to be the leader I can be for this team and get this thing on the right track.”

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed that he told running back Saquon Barkley that he will not be traded ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline.

Barkley said following Sunday’s win over the Commanders that Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen both told him he was not going to be dealt,

Barkley signed a one-year deal this offseason that included $1 million in incentives after the Giants placed the franchise tag on him. The incentives in the contract pushed Barkley’s contract above the $10.1 million he would have made if he signed the franchise tender, even though a long-term agreement was not reached.

Barkley is scheduled to hit free agency for the first time in his career next spring.
