Any newcomer in a job would gladly take advice from someone who’s been in the career longer than them.

For NFL rookies, whenever they get a chance to speak to one of the NFL’s biggest stars, it’s a great opportunity to see what words of wisdom they could pass down. This is exactly what Chargers rookie defensive lineman Scott Matlock did when he spoke with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce after Sunday’s matchup.

“Do you have any advice for a rookie?” Matlock asked in a clip posted by Inside the NFL.

“You know what it is? Understand the other side of the ball just as well as you know your side of the ball,” Kelce responded. “Because everything is predicated off of what I’m doing and what the defense is doing. Just love it, man. Play with the guy next to ya. That’s all I got for ya, man.”

Kelce seems to be following his own advice well as he’s leading the Chiefs with 525 receiving yards on 48 catches through seven games.

The Chiefs walked away with a 31-17 win in the AFC West rivalry game.
