Jets' Dalvin Cook Addresses Possibility of Trade Amid Frustrations Over His Role
Jets running back Dalvin Cook admitted Thursday that he’s experienced some frustration over his limited role in New York’s offense and addressed the possibility of him being traded before the NFL’s trade deadline.
Cook has not received double-digit touches in a single game since the Jets’ season opener against the Bills, and speculation over a possible trade has heated up with the deadline approaching.
“It’s something I can’t control, that my name is being floated around in trade rumors. It might be a good thing. Maybe a bad thing,” said Cook via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Per Cimini, Cook said he intends to speak to his agent and Jets GM Joe Douglas about a possible trade.
“Of course it’s frustrating," Cook said of his workload. “I’m an honest person, man. I work. I want to play... And, yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s new for me. I come from getting the ball 20 times a game, or however many times. Of course it’s frustrating. It's something that I’ve been adapting to.”
New York and Cook agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal during the offseason, but it’s clear the veteran running back had envisioned himself having a bigger role in the offense.
Instead, the 28-year-old has taken a back seat to second-year star Breece Hall. Cook has carried the ball 39 times for just 109 yards across six games. He’s not yet scored a touchdown in a Jets uniform, and only recorded three rushes during New York's win against the Eagles in Week 6.
