Heading into Week 10, the seemingly improbable in-season return of Aaron Rodgers from a torn Achilles has remained a hot topic. As the Jets star continues his rehab, the latest update on his health indicates he believes that dream is close to becoming a reality.

Rodgers, who suffered his injury in Week 1, was again a guest on the Jets’ sideline for their game against the Raiders on Sunday Night Football. During the broadcast, NBC’s Melissa Stark offered viewers some insight on the 39-year-old’s progress, which included a direct statement from Rodgers on his projected return timeline.

What is Rodgers’s goal, according to Stark? To take the field by mid-December in what would, arguably, be one of the most stunning injury recoveries of all time.

“I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery, you have a good patient, it makes this possible,” Rodgers told Stark, per the broadcaster’s report.

In regards to his rehab, Stark also detailed where Rodgers stands in terms of his conditioning and strengthening range of motion.

“He told me he has been working on a weight-limiting treadmill. Jogging with 50% of his body weight. His goal this week is 75%. He said he could drop back and cross over, he’s just got to be able to get up on his toe. He has to get off his heel to start running.”

As of Sunday, New York has declined to provide any official updates on Rodgers since placing him on injured reserve on Sept. 12. But after Sunday’s report, the speculation figures to see a rampant boost despite the significant hurdles Rodgers still has to clear to play again this season.
