Sean McDermott Explains Bills’ Decision to Fire OC Ken Dorsey

The Bills head coach weighed in on the departure of Ken Dorsey.

The Bills parted ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey on Tuesday morning, the day after their disappointing loss against the Broncos on Monday Night Football. 

Head coach Sean McDermott addressed the departure of Dorsey and offered some insight into the organization’s decision to fire its OC after less than two seasons. 

“Just felt like it was time for change,” said McDermott, via Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News. “We need to be a confident football team and find consistent production. And that’s really what it came down to.”

Dorsey was named the offensive coordinator in Buffalo after former OC Brian Daboll was hired as the head coach of the Giants ahead of the 2022 NFL season.

The Bills have a top 10 scoring offense this year, and their 370.1 yards per game of total offense is the seventh best in the league. Despite that, they’ve lost three of their last four games and have been held to 25 or fewer points in each of their last six games. 

“We’ve got to find that confidence, we’ve got to find that energy, we’ve got to find that consistent level of production,” said McDermott, adding that the decision to fire Dorsey was his alone. 

Buffalo will play host to the Jets on Sunday, Nov. 19, at which point interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady will have his first shot at turning around an offense that has struggled of late.
