The winning team of the Thanksgiving NFL games traditionally get to eat a celebratory turkey leg on national television after the win.

However, the Cowboys ate their turkey leg a bit earlier than that in their 45–10 win over the Commanders. After scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter, some of the Dallas receivers went to a Salvation Army kettle sitting beyond the end zone and dug out a turkey leg wrapped in foil for quarterback Dak Prescott to munch on.

Coach Mike McCarthy was shown smiling on the sidelines. Fans could tell he really loved the surprise celebration.

Prescott took the turkey leg to the sideline and devoured it. At the time, there was still about five minutes of game time left.

CBS analyst Tony Romo admitted it was the “first time I’ve seen someone get it before the game’s over.”

CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson reported more on the planning behind this celebration.

"Tight end Jake Ferguson all week talked about it, saying ‘We have to put a turkey leg in the kettle. We have to put a turkey leg in the kettle,'" Wolfson told Nantz and Romo in the booth. "The start of the fourth quarter, they decided okay, we’re going to do it."

Prescott and the Cowboys offense clearly had a bit of extra motivation to score one more touchdown in the last quarter of the game, and after hitting the end zone, got to celebrate in style.
