Jonathan Taylor to Undergo Surgery, Will Miss Time, Colts Owner Says
Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor will undergo thumb surgery and miss the next two to three weeks of action, team owner Jim Irsay told The Athletic’s James Boyd on Tuesday. It’s unclear exactly when or how Taylor suffered the injury.
It’s been a less-than-ideal season for Taylor in terms of luck with injuries. He missed the first four games of the season with an ankle injury amid a very public holdout concerning negotiations around a contract extension. But he eventually returned to the field after signing a three-year deal worth $42 million in October.
In his seven games played this season, Taylor has rushed for 414 yards and four touchdowns on 100 carries. He’s coming off his best game of the season, one in which he rushed for 91 yards and two scores during the team’s 27–20 victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday. There’s no decision on whether he will go on the injured reserve list as of yet, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
If Irsay’s timeline is accurate, Taylor could return as early as Dec. 10 against the Bengals or Dec. 17 when they host the Steelers.
