An NFL official part of the yard-marker crew was the victim of an unfortunate collision in the Lions’ 33—28 win over the Saints at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday.

The official, Nick Piazza, reportedly suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated knee after New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara ran into him on the sidelines. Piazza's injuries will require surgery, according to a Saints spokesperson.

Kamara was tackled on a third down in the second quarter and fell out of bounds onto Piazza’s legs.

The FOX broadcast showed Piazza’s leg bent at an awkward angle before cutting away. Piazza immediately received medical attention and was later stretchered off the field wearing a leg cast and transported to a local hospital.

Piazza, a member of the NFL's chain-gang team, will undergo surgery next week.

"He appreciates the many well wishes and the continued care he continues to receive,” the Saints said in a statement.
