Justin Herbert Suffered Fractured Finger During Loss to Broncos, per Brandon Staley

Brandon Staley provided an injury update on Justin Herbert after Sunday’s loss.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was removed from Sunday’s game against the Broncos after sustaining an injury to his throwing hand during the second quarter.

Herbert did not return to the game, and was replaced by backup Easton Stick.

After the loss, coach Brandon Staley addressed the media and provided an update on Herbert’s injury. Staley told reporters that Los Angeles’s quarterback was diagnosed with a fractured index finger on his right hand.

Staley didn’t offer a timeline for Herbert to return.

On the play in which he was injured, Herbert was hit by Denver’s defensive end Zach Allen. He remained in the game for the rest of the drive but did not come back out during the Chargers’ next series.

Earlier this season, Herbert suffered a fractured middle finger on his non-throwing hand, but it didn’t cause him to miss a game.

The Chargers have a short week of rest ahead of their matchup in Week 15, when they take on the Raiders on Thursday night. If Herbert is unavailable, Stick will likely be called upon to make the first start of his NFL career.

Los Angeles fell to 5-8 on the season following Sunday’s 24–7 loss, having now suffered defeats in four of their last five games.
