Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked on Wednesday morning about a report from NBC Sports indicating that the franchise was preparing to move on from him after the season.

His response? Well, it went about how most NFL fans would expect.

“Yeah, I’m getting ready for Kansas City,” Belichick deadpanned in response.

Shortly after, a follow-up was asked about whether or not owner Robert Kraft had discussed his plans for the team following the season with Belichick.

Belichick’s response? Again, it went as most NFL fans would expect.

“Getting ready for Kansas City.”

It’s certainly a reporter’s job to ask these types of questions to the coaches of the teams they cover. However, by now, most reporters surely have an idea of what kind of response will come from the future Hall of Fame head coach.

New England is mired in its worst season of the Belichick era, sitting at 3–10 on the year heading into Week 15’s matchup with the Chiefs at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots are well on their way to missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, a standard that is unacceptable to the franchise in large part because of what Belichick built with quarterback Tom Brady.

It remains to be seen what New England will do after the season in regards to Belichick’s future. But for now, the focus will remain on the task at hand with four games remaining.
