Two unlikely players took home AFC and NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 14—and they both play in New York.

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson and Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito won the awards after leading their teams to impressive victories.

The much-maligned Wilson threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets’ 30–6 win over the Texans, despite rainy and windy conditions. The victory snapped a five-game losing streak.

It was Wilson’s first start after being benched in favor of Tim Boyle for the previous two games. His 75% completion rate and 117.9 passer rating were the highest of his career. It was also just the second time in his career that he threw at least two touchdowns without also throwing an interception.

DeVito piloted the Giants to victory on Monday night against the Packers, completing 17 of 21 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown while also adding 71 on 10 carries running the ball. After Green Bay took the lead with 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter, DeVito completed four straight passes to get the Giants into position for Randy Bullock’s game-winning 37-yard field goal.

DeVito, an undrafted rookie out of Illinois who grew up in the shadow of New York’s home stadium, began the season as the Giants’ third-string quarterback and was thrust into the starting role after injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. The team is now 3–1 with him under center.

The Jets and Giants have identical 5–8 records after this weekend’s wins and are hanging around the periphery of the playoff hunt.
