Steelers’ George Pickens Ripped by Fans for Lack of Effort vs. Colts
For the second time this year, Steelers fans were irate with wide receiver George Pickens after it appeared he completely gave up on a play during a game. Only this time, it appeared to happen twice.
During a Thursday Night Football blowout loss against the Patriots on Dec. 7, there were several incidents where Pickens’s body language was just off. It was especially apparent when cameras caught him giving no effort on a block during a run play and there was more of the same on Saturday against the Colts.
Fans ripped Pickens for not giving any effort to block for teammate Jaylen Warren when the tailback was fighting for extra yards that could have resulted in a touchdown. With his teammate fighting for contact, Pickens can be seen just watching idly right next to him.
There was even another instance where he appeared to give up on a play after Mitch Trubisky threw an interception that was intended for the wide receiver. Instead of trying to tackle Indianapolis safety Julian Blackmon, Pickens just jogged in the other direction. Naturally, Pittsburgh lost 30–13 and Pickens had three catches for 47 yards.
Here are some of the reactions to Pickens’s lack of effort on Saturday night:
