Mics Caught Mike McDaniel Maniacally Laughing Before Dolphins’ 60-Yard TD vs. Jets
Cameras from NFL Films and Hard Knocks have been following the Dolphins throughout the season, capturing plenty of footage that has reinforced Mike McDaniel’s reputation as the most likable coach in the NFL. There was his hilarious reaction to getting hit below the belt against the Raiders and the adorable moment he shared with his daughter at the team’s practice facility, among others.
The latest example came in Sunday’s game against the Jets, when McDaniel just knew his team was about to torch New York for a long touchdown.
“I’m having a tough time not visualizing a one-play drive here,” he told the injured Tyreek Hill on the sideline before laughing to himself like a movie villain. Sure enough, Jaylen Waddle got behind the defense for a 60-yard touchdown catch on the next play.
The Jets’ defense never stood a chance. Waddle took advantage of being left in single coverage against corner D.J. Reed. All the speedy Waddle needed to do was get a step behind Reed and let Tua Tagovailoa hit him in stride. He caught the pass and had a clear path to the end zone.
It was clear from the moment the ball left Tagovailoa’s hand that it was going to be touchdown. It didn’t take a football genius to see that. But the remarkable thing about McDaniel is that he was able to envision the score before he even called the play.
