Mic’d Up Video Shows Mike Tomlin Never Wavered From Bold Play Call to Ice Game vs. Seattle
NFL Films captured the moment Mike Tomlin made a bold offensive play call that secured Pittsburgh's 30–23 win over Seattle in Week 17.
Coming out of the two-minute warning, many expected the Steelers to run the ball on first-and-10 from just across midfield, as the Seahawks possessed two timeouts, and a rushing play would ensure that Seattle had to spend them.
However, Tomlin was mic’d up on the sideline, and could be heard telling his coaches and players he refused to get cautious when so close to victory.
"We ain’t going to get scared and conservative," said Tomlin. "Rhythm pass. Play to win."
Tomlin also made his way to talented wideout George Pickens with a bit of inspiration. “GP, just get ready to make another damn play," said Tomlin. "Get us out of here.”
Pickens did just that.
Mason Rudolph connected with Pickens for a pass that went 24 yards down to the Seattle 20.
Following three consecutive running plays by Najee Harris that gained a total of 15 yards, the Steelers were able to run out the clock and emerge victorious.
Tomlin's brash play-calling resulted in Pittsburgh keeping their hopes of a playoff berth alive, now needing a win over Baltimore in Week 18, coupled with a loss by either Jacksonville or Buffalo.
