Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson tearfully shouldered the blame for his team’s Saturday loss against the Houston Texans when he dropped a critical pass on fourth down in the game’s final moments.

With the Colts down 23–17 and a little over a minute to go in the fourth quarter, quarterback Gardner Minshew threw a pass to Woodson who was wide open in the flat. If he had made the catch, he would have easily picked up a first down to keep his team’s hopes alive for a playoff berth. Instead, the ball bounced off his hands and the Texans (10–7) won, securing the AFC South title and a postseason appearance.

Goodson didn’t make excuses despite the ball being slightly behind him. He spoke to media members with tears in his eyes after the game and put it all on himself.

“I work too hard to just drop the ball like that,” he said. “I gotta accept that on the chin, and that’s OK.

When the quality of the pass was brought up, he said, “It still touched my hands.”

“But next year, I won’t be in that position ever again—ever again,” he continued.
