Chris Jones Erupts Mid-Interview After Finding Out Teammate Got His Sack Credit Win Over Dolphins
Kansas City Chiefs star pass-rusher undefined had something to say to the league after his team’s 26—7 wild-card round win over the Miami Dolphins: Get your stats straight.
Despite the Chiefs' general excitement over pounding the Dolphins and advancing to the next round of the playoffs, Jones expressed his displeasure after the game for what he thought was a statistical robbery of the highest order.
During a post-game interview with NFL Network’s James Palmer, Jones called over teammate George Karlaftis. Jones then asked Palmer, “Did they give [Karlaftis] half of my sack, or I got the whole sack?”
Palmer told Jones that he only got half a sack, to which Jones erupted with a mini temper tantrum.
Jones bemoaned, “Oh my god. I’m so sick of them doing that, imma tell you right now, this is the third time that they gave this guy half of my sack, stop it! I was there, I had him wrapped up, it’s my sack!”
The sack in question took place in the third quarter, when Jones and Karlaftis brought Tua Tagovailoa to the ground to give the Dolphins a third-and-long in their own territory.
Upon review of the play, Karlaftis appears to do most of the work in sacking Tagovailoa, rushing unblocked toward the Dolphins quarterback and taking him down from behind. Jones should consider himself lucky he got credited with half a sack in the first place; he also recorded two quarterback hits in the win.
Jones, who ended the regular season with 10.5 sacks and triggered a $1.25 million contract incentive bonus in Week 18, will be sniffing for more blood as the Chiefs advance to the divisional round for the sixth-straight season.
