Jared Goff Brought Fans to Tears During Final Seconds of Lions’ First Playoff Win in 32 Years
It had been 32 years since the Detroit Lions last won a playoff game, but the team managed to snap its lengthy drought on Sunday with a hard-fought victory against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.
Sunday was Detroit’s first home playoff game in more than three decades, and as quarterback Jared Goff took a knee to run down the final seconds on the clock, it was an emotional moment for fans at Ford Field.
As the Lions prepared to knee the ball, the NBC broadcast panned to a Lions fan in the crowd who was overcome with emotion. The individual could be seen crying tears of joy, soaking in the moment as the Lions’ secured their first playoff win since 1991.
Ford Field was loud all night as fans showed their support for the team. The Lions responded with a strong first half, and while play slowed down a bit later on, they were able to edge out a 24–23 victory.
Since their last playoff win, the team had made eight trips to the postseason, coming up empty handed each time. They snapped that streak in a big way on Sunday, and the fans showed their appreciation.
They’re now set to host another home playoff game in the divisional round next weekend, where they’ll take on the winner of the Philadelphia Eagles-Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ clash on Monday night.
