Saints Fire OC Pete Carmichael
The New Orleans Saints are moving on from longtime offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
Amid rumors of an offensive staff shake-up in New Orleans this offseason, the Saints have decided to part ways with the 52-year-old Carmichael, who has called offensive plays for the past two seasons.
Following stints in Washington and San Diego, Carmichael joined the Saints’ staff in 2006 as quarterbacks coach and was promoted three years later to offensive coordinator under then-Saints head coach Sean Payton.
The Saints also announced they are parting ways with senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns.
“I would like to thank Pete, Bob and Kodi for their service to the New Orleans Saints and to this coaching staff,” Saints head coach Dennis Allen said in a statement. “These types of decisions are never easy to come to, but are necessary as we move forward. I would especially like to thank Pete for his contributions to this staff for 18 seasons. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the job he has done and as a colleague.”
The Saints made nine playoff appearances with Carmichael on staff, including a victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
