San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan got to get a bit of a head start on his preparation for Sunday’s divisional round game.

Shanahan’s team had last weekend off by virtue of having clinched the NFC’s top seed, but Shanahan and his staff were still in the office on Sunday preparing for their next opponent, whoever that might be. It quickly became apparent on Sunday evening, however, who the Niners would be facing.

As the Green Bay Packers raced out to an early lead over the Dallas Cowboys, it became clear that the Packers would be the team making the trip to Santa Clara as the lowest seed remaining.

Shanahan and his staff wasted no time in beginning to study the Packers.

Shanahan was asked Tuesday when the team started preparing to face Green Bay. He said that they started looking at a few teams earlier in the week but that there was a specific time they started really honing in on the Packers.

“Started really focusing on them midway through the second quarter [of the game against the Cowboys],” Shanahan said. “Then [the Cowboys] scored at the end of the second quarter so I kind of did both at halftime. And then, third quarter I was set on one team.”

That’s tough to hear if you’re a Cowboys fan, but is it unfair? No way.
