The Chicago Bears are set to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron as their new OC, according to The Athletic. He was among eight candidates for the position, and he will replace Luke Getsy, who was fired on Jan. 10.

Waldron, 44, had assistant coaching stints with Washington, the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams before getting the OC job in Seattle in 2021. He was at the helm of the Seahawks’ offense for the past three seasons. The Seahawks ranked 17th in the NFL in scoring defense and 21st in yards allowed in 2023.

Now, he’ll take over a young offense that could be going through significant change this offseason. Chicago currently holds the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft and could trade the pick, because the franchise already has Justin Fields under center.

It’s unclear what the offense will look like come training camp, but regardless, Waldron will be looking to improve a Bears offense that ranked 18th in the NFL in points and 20th in total yards last season.
