Bills Fans Support Tyler Bass by Donating to Local Animal Charity
Tyler Bass might not be the most popular figure in Buffalo after missing a game-tying, 44-yard field goal in the Bills’ 27–24 divisional round playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, some local fans showed support for the Bills’ placekicker after his low moment by contributing to a Buffalo-area cat adoption shelter and organization. Donations surged on Monday, with people contributing $22 as a nod to Bass’s No. 2 jersey.
By the end of business on Monday, Ten Lives Club–which offers rescue, adoption, feeding and spay/neuter services for cats–received more than $7,000 in donations through Facebook after a post that supported Bass, according to The Buffalo News. More contributions are being accepted through the group’s website and Instagram account.
“Tyler doesn’t deserve any of the hate he’s receiving,” the Facebook post said. “He’s an excellent football player and an even better person who took the time to help our organization and rescue cats last year. Leave our friend alone.”
Bass has been public with his love for cats, appearing in a campaign for Show Your Soft Side, a group that partners with professional athletes and entertainers to end animal abuse. That resulted in him working with Ten Lives Club.
During the regular season, Bass converted 24 of 29 field goal attempts (82.8%) with his longest being 54 yards. However, he struggled during the playoffs, making only two of his five attempts.
