The Philadelphia Eagles are making a change at offensive coordinator, as Brian Johnson is not expected to return next season, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Eagles podcast host Derrick Gunn was the first to report on Monday that Johnson was unlikely to return.

Johnson spent a decade coaching in college as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator before making the jump to the NFL. He was Philadelphia’s quarterbacks coach for two seasons in 2021 and ’22, then took over as offensive coordinator in 2023 when Shane Steichen left to become the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach. However, the Eagles’ offense regressed this season, averaging 2.6 fewer points and 34.7 fewer yards per game compared to last year.

The Eagles now have moved on from two of their three coordinators, as they already had fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai on Sunday. Desai, like Johnson, spent one season in his position after taking over for now-Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Although both Johnson and Desai are gone, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni will speak with the media Wednesday, a sign that he likely will return for his fourth season with the team in 2024. Sirianni is 34-17 as Philadelphia’s head coach but finished the ’23 season on a 1-6 skid, including a wild-card playoff loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
