Dolphins CB Appears to Shade Vic Fangio After Coordinator Departs Miami
Despite a 2023 season in which the Miami Dolphins won 11 games—their most since 2008—a gulf remained between the team’s offense and defense. The Dolphins finished second the league in points scored but 22nd in points allowed.
With that mind, Miami parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Wednesday—a move said to clear the way for Fangio to become the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator.
It appears that at least one member of Miami's defense is intrigued by the development. On Wednesday afternoon, cornerback Cam Smith tweeted an unlocked lock emoji shortly after Fangio's departure.
Smith played 15 games this year and started none.
The Dolphins drafted Smith in the second round in 2023 after a four-year career with South Carolina.
Fangio, one of the NFL's most experienced defensive assistants, has coordinated defenses for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, in addition to a stint as the Denver Broncos' head coach from 2019-21.
