Troy Aikman Had a Five-Word Message for Dak Prescott and His Future With Cowboys
After putting together a 12–5 regular season and an NFC East division title, expectations were high once again for the Dallas Cowboys as the franchise entered the NFL playoffs.
However, Dallas’ postseason ended quickly as the team fell in a 48–32 wild card upset at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
Starting quarterback Dak Prescott wore much of the criticism for the loss and his inability to get the team over the hump. The latest postseason defeat dropped his record to 2–5 as a starting quarterback in the playoffs, where he has thrown for 1,962 yards and 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
However, Cowboys legend Troy Aikman still believes in Prescott as the Dallas starter, even though pressure continues to mount on the quarterback to begin producing when the lights are brightest.
“I still believe in Dak,” Aikman said. “I think until you do it [in the playoffs], there’s always those criticisms. Peyton Manning went through that his first three years when he didn’t win a playoff game. And then you look back on it now and you can’t imagine that anybody ever questioned whether or not he could win a playoff game.”
“The pressure gets higher for sure as they go into this offseason and into next season, but it makes it hard,” he added. “It makes it hard for them to come back and do it all over again. …Hopefully, they have more opportunities ahead of them.”
After another disappointing playoff exit, all eyes will be on coach Mike McCarthy and Prescott next season as they try to deliver Dallas a long-awaited Super Bowl.
