Eagles to Hire Vic Fangio as Defensive Coordinator, per Report
The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Vic Fangio as the franchise’s new defensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 65-year-old Fangio, who is one of the most respected defensive minds in the NFL, mutually parted ways with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday after one season as the defensive coordinator. The Miami defense took substantial strides forward from 2022 last season, finishing 10th in the league in yards allowed, and third in sacks.
Fangio’s departure likely has more to do with what he desires in Philadelphia than anything pertaining to job performance in his one season in Miami. He immediately became a top target in Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator search and will sign a contract with the Eagles just one day removed from leaving the Dolphins.
Fangio served as a consultant for Nick Sirianni in 2022, so it serves as no surprise that he emerged as a strong candidate once the team fired former defensive coordinator Sean Desai earlier this week.
