It can no longer be debated: all of Michigan has caught Detroit Lions fever.

Over the course of the past month, the Lions have gone from merely a great story to perhaps the most compelling team in North American sports. If Detroit—which tied a franchise record with 12 regular-season wins this year—beats the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game Sunday, it will lock up its first Super Bowl berth.

The buzz around the Lions is palpable, and it’s not contained to Ford Field. That was the case during the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, when fans began chanting Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s name.

Goff the appeared blown away by the reaction when speaking with reporters Friday.

“These fans are unbelievable,” Goff told reporters. “I expect to see a lot of them this weekend as well. It’ll be fun.”
