George Kittle Used Perfect Meme to Sum Up 49ers' Comeback Win Over Lions

The San Francisco 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl, where a rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs awaits.

The 49ers, who are accustomed to playing from ahead of their opponents, had to overcome two deficits in their run to the Super Bowl.

After a stunning comeback against the Detroit Lions during Sunday’s NFC championship, which included a 27-point unanswered run in the second half, star tight end George Kittle perfectly summed up the game by referencing a classic meme while on stage during San Francisco’s postgame celebrations.

“They had us in the first half, not gonna lie,” said Kittle of the Lions, who jumped out to a 24–7 lead after the first two quarters of play.

Kittle’s hilarious comment was also a great representation of how the game played out. The Niners looked outmatched during the first half, as Jared Goff and Detroit’s offense were firing on all cylinders. That changed quickly in the second half, and a big shift in momentum saw the Niners turn things around en route to a 34–31 win.

During San Francisco’s last Super Bowl appearance four years ago, a loss to Kansas City, a mic’d up Kittle could be overheard on the sideline making a vow to return to the NFL’s biggest stage.

He’s now made good on that promise, with a rematch against those same Chiefs looming in two weeks.
