Steelers Hire Ex-Falcons Coach Arthur Smith as Offensive Coordinator, per Report
The Pittsburgh Steelers are hiring former Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith to become their new offensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.
The Steelers fired their previous offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, on Nov. 21, and since then, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan and running backs coach Eddie Faulkner assumed those duties on an interim basis.
Smith was fired by the Falcons after the 2023 season following three seasons with the team. Atlanta went 7–10 in all three seasons under Smith. Prior to his tenure with the Falcons, Smith served as offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans.
Smith will be joining a Steelers team that went 10–7 and earned a wild-card playoff berth. He likely will have quarterback Kenny Pickett at the forefront of his offensive, although coach Mike Tomlin and owner Art Rooney II have teased a quarterback competition between him, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.
Pittsburgh ranked 28th in points among the NFL’s 32 teams this season and 25th in offensive yardage.
