Patrick Mahomes Says Ravens' Justin Tucker Tries to Get Under Chiefs' Skin
Even accounting for the Baltimore Ravens' late push during the AFC championship Sunday, the game's biggest drama may have come before it even started.
Ahead of the Ravens' clash with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker was warming up in an area where Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes wanted to throw. Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce responded by picking up Tucker's tee and helmet and tossing them to the side.
On Tuesday, Mahomes discussed the Chiefs' relationship with Tucker further on KCSP-AM in Kansas City.
"He does that little stuff, I think to try to get under our skin," Mahomes said. "I asked him to move his stuff. He got up and moved it, I think, two inches but didn’t move it out of the way. I was gonna let it slide, but Travis got in and moved it for me."
Tucker, seemingly undeterred by the entire episode, hit both the kicks he attempted Sunday—an extra point and a 43-yard field goal.
"I have a lot of respect for him as a player, one of the best kickers of all time, probably the best kicker of all time," Mahomes said. "But at the same time, you’ve got to have respect for each team, and we all share the field, and we try to do that in a respectful way."
