Chiefs’ Andy Reid Shares Opinion of 49ers QB Brock Purdy Before Super Bowl
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid knows that his team has their hands full with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy when the two teams square off in Super Bowl LVIII.
For all the talk about Purdy’s label as a “game manager” and being only as good as the star players around him on offense, his talent isn’t lost on Reid, who has done his fair share of quarterback evaluations in his coaching career.
“Listen, he’s a heck of a player,” Reid said of Purdy. “I remember specifically one of the Saturday afternoons watching him in college and I remember the head coach saying, ‘This guy has changed our program.’ Changing a program, you know, that’s … big. And that’s what he is. He’s doing that in the National Football League.
“Last week he did as much with his legs as he did with his arm. He ran the ball well. He’s a good football player. He’s smart. He’s got a great feel for things.”

Purdy was instrumental in leading his team’s comeback from 17 down in the NFC championship game last Sunday, and has buoyed the 49ers offense with his steady play throughout the season.
Purdy placed himself squarely in the league MVP conversation, thanks to completing 69.4% of his passes for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions.
Game manager or not, the numbers don’t lie. Reid and the Chiefs know that they’re in for a battle in the Super Bowl.
