49ers Believe Super Bowl Practice Field Gives Them a ‘Disadvantage,’ per Report
Ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas, some San Francisco 49ers staffers are not pleased with the UNLV practice field, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
During an appearance Monday on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the report and said that the team feels like it’s a “disadvantage.” He added that the team is slated to first practice on the field Monday at 3 p.m. ET but is already displeased with the conditions.
“There already have been complaints that there are seams in the practice field, that it feels like they’re walking around on a sponge,” Schefter said Monday. “I guess the NFL, last week, laid sod on top of the field turf and this has nothing to do with UNLV. UNLV is kind of an innocent bystander in this.”
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are set to practice at the Raiders’ practice facility.
San Francisco has held discussions about adjusting its schedule so that it could practice at the Raiders facilities when Kansas City isn’t there, per CBS Sports. But it doesn’t look like that will happen.
Kickoff for Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium is slated for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
