USC QB Caleb Williams Ignites Draft Rumors With Post on Kliff Kingsbury Joining Commanders
Kliff Kingsbury’s decision to join the Washington Commanders over the Las Vegas Raiders as their new offensive coordinator fueled plenty of NFL draft buzz. But on Sunday night, USC quarterback Caleb Williams drove the intrigue up a few notches.
Williams, who’s expected to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2024 NFL draft and a likely top-5 pick, took to social media to show some love to Kingsbury.
Williams wrapped up a 2023 campaign with the Trojans by completing 68.6% of his passes for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also tacked on 11 rushing scores last season and finished his collegiate career with 10,082 passing yards, 93 touchdowns through the air, 27 rushing scores and just 14 interceptions.
The Commanders hold the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Kingsbury opting for Washington over Las Vegas (No. 13 selection) led to widespread speculation that he made that choice due to the possibility of adding a top signal-caller in the draft.
Williams is a likely candidate to come off the board within the first 1–3 picks of the draft, and the Commanders now appear to be a top potential landing spot.
Kingsbury, the former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons from 2019-22, held the same position with Texas Tech for the six seasons prior. His rise through the collegiate ranks began with Houston as an offensive quality control coach for two years in 2008 and ’09, then became the team’s offensive coordinator for the two seasons after. He spent one year as the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M in 2012 before being hired by Texas Tech.
