Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Explains Why He’s Such a Fan of 49ers’ Brock Purdy
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was asked about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII.
Kelce admitted that he’s been rooting for Purdy since he stepped onto the scene, and is an admirer of the 24-year-old’s rise to stardom after having been “Mr. Irrelevant” on the third night of the draft in 2022.
Purdy was the last selection in the 2022 NFL draft, but he’s proven his doubters wrong en route to winning the 49ers’ starting job and helping to lead the team to a Super Bowl.
“How could you not cheer for that, man?” said Kelce of Purdy, via Zak Keefer of The Athletic. “And the way he’s done it... the naysayers, how he’s been able to fight through everybody saying what type of QB he is. You can’t help but root for the guy.”
Although the 34-year-old said he’s a big fan of Purdy, who even made an appearance on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, Kelce made clear those feelings would be put to the wayside and he’d be cheering against him on Sunday.
“Seeing him go through what he had to go through and being where he is, you can appreciate that and respect the hell out of him. And like I said, you can cheer for him and want him to keep having that success, just, you know, maybe not this Sunday,” he said.
