Hot Mic Caught Baker Mayfield Telling Steve Young His Plans for NFL Free Agency
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is hitting free agency this offseason after just one year with the team, but it sounds like he plans to stay in Tampa Bay.
During a break on the Up & Adams Show on Wednesday, microphones caught Mayfield speaking about his free agency with Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young.
The full conversation couldn’t be clearly heard, but it sounded like at one point Mayfield said he wanted to go back to the Buccaneers and “get some pieces back.”
Mayfield reiterated his desire to stay in Tampa in front of the camera as well, speaking on First Things First later in the day.
“I would love to be back,” Mayfield said. “Obviously the pieces have to fall in the right place for me to be back. ... I love playing there. It got me back to a good headspace and playing football and enjoying it again. We’ll see what happens.”
The Buccaneers finished the 2023 season with a 9–8 record. Mayfield led the team to the NFL divisional round after upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles 32–9 in the wild-card game. Tampa Bay lost 31–23 to the Detroit Lions in the divisional round.
