It seems difficult to remember a time when Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was just a football player—the Chiefs’ uber-reliable, charismatic, Canton-bound pass-catcher.

Now, he is famous enough that The Los Angeles Times could plausibly send a reporter to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas for the express purposes of covering his relationship with musician Taylor Swift—which the newspaper apparently has.

On Thursday, the reporter asked Kelce what he made of the hype surrounding one of the most closely followed American celebrity relationships of this century—and the future Hall of Famer was honest about how their relationship continued to thrive.

“I think the values that we stand for, who we are as people. We love to shine light on others—shine light on people who help and support us. On top of that, I think we just both have a love for life,” Kelce said.

In December, Swift suggested her romance with Kelce began in the summertime after the tight end “adorably put [her] on blast” on his podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.

Kansas City is scheduled to meet the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, while Swift’s next album, The Tortured Poets Department, is due out April 19.
