Micah Parsons Teases Contract Extension: ‘Ready to Be a Cowboy for Life’
Micah Parsons is one of the best defensive players in the NFL, and he has become the focal point of the Dallas Cowboys' defense. Three years into his career, Parsons has already produced 40.5 sacks while making the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams during each season.
This offseason will be the first that Parsons is eligible for an extension, and the 24-year-old made it extremely clear on Thursday night at the NFL Honors ceremony that he doesn’t want to go anywhere.
“I love Cowboys nation,” Parsons said. “I’m extremely grateful to still be a Cowboy and I hope I’m a Cowboy for life.”
Then, on Friday morning, Parsons acknowledged that Dallas has to focus on signing wide receiver CeeDee Lamb long term before getting to him. However, that doesn’t change the fact that he plans on being in Dallas for the rest of his career.
“I know they’ve got to get CeeDee Lamb done, I know that’s a priority right now,” Parsons said. “This is the team I wanted to be with and this is the team I wanted to win a championship with.”
Dallas has many key players with expiring contracts over the next few years, including Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott and edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence. Therefore, the process to sign Parsons may take some time, and Parsons said he is okay with being patient.
Parsons has one year left on his four-year rookie contract, but Dallas will likely pick up his fifth-year option for 2025 this offseason. That will give him and the team more time to figure out an extension.
