The New Orleans Saints are expected to finalize a deal to make San Francisco 49ers passing game specialist Klint Kubiak the team’s new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN and NFL Network

Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday will be Kubiak’s last game with the NFC champions, as he’s set to replace former Saints OC Pete Carmichael.

This was Kubiak’s first season with the offensively loaded 49ers, who ranked fourth in the NFL this season in net passing yards (4,384) and second in touchdown passes (33). This was his latest stop over an NFL coaching career that started in 2013 with the Minnesota Vikings. After that, he was a Denver Broncos assistant in 2022 before moving on to San Francisco.

Kubiak is the son of former Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, who guided Denver to victory in Super Bowl 50.

The Saints fired Carmichael after the team averaged 23.6 points (ninth in the NFL) and 337.2 yards (14th in the NFL) per game. The team finished the year 9–8 and missed the playoffs. Kubiak will coach his final game with the 49ers on Sunday, with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
