Patrick Mahomes’s Thoughtful Post-Super Bowl Comment About Tom Brady Was All Class
Patrick Mahomes has drawn comparisons to—and even some talk that he has surpassed—Tom Brady during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl run this postseason.
Such chatter resumed after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 25—22 in overtime, on Sunday to secure their second straight championship, becoming the NFL’s first repeat champion since Brady’s New England Patriots two decades ago. During a postgame interview on NFL Network, Mahomes was asked if he hears the comparisons to Brady.
The Chiefs quarterback responded in the classiest way possible, acknowledging Brady’s Super Bowl victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over his Chiefs three years ago.

“Yeah, I hear it. To me it will always be tough because Brady beat me in the Super Bowl. That’s one thing he’ll always have over my head. But it gives me something to strive for every single day. It’s chasing greatness,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes, 28, became just the third player in league history to win three Super Bowl MVP awards, joining Brady and Joe Montana.
But as Mahomes himself acknowledged, Brady always will have that Super Bowl LV victory over him in any head-to-head debate.
