Brock Purdy Had Classy Message for Kyle Shanahan, 49ers Veterans After Super Bowl Loss
Amid Sunday’s Super Bowl loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy showed class and leadership in postgame media availability.
Purdy was asked about coach Kyle Shanahan and his teammates, and the 49ers quarterback showed support in defeat.
“Obviously, it sucks. You wanna win it for that kinda guy,” Purdy said of Shanahan. “He’s a great coach. Everybody wants to go to war with that guy…we want to win for him. Obviously, the older guys. The vets. Trent Williams. Arik Armstead. All the guys that have been through it and you want to win for them, but it starts with coach, that’s who I hurt for. And I hurt for all the other guys, our whole team, with what we’ve been through the last year, hasn’t been easy. For it to go like that, where it’s close at the end, it’s tough. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it.”
Purdy played well in his first Super Bowl appearance, completing 23 of his 38 pass attempts for 255 yards and a touchdown pass, and got San Francisco into field goal range late in regulation and again in overtime to give the 49ers a chance to win.
However, the failure to convert those drives into touchdowns will certainly haunt San Francisco as the team enters the offseason lamenting what could have been.
