Seahawks to Fully Guarantee QB Geno Smith’s Contract for 2024, per Report
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith will remain on the roster through Friday, which means $12.7 million in his contract will become fully guaranteed for the 2024 season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Previously, the money was only an injury guarantee, but the contract converts to a full guarantee on Friday.
Smith signed a three-year, $105 million contract last offseason, but only the first year of the deal was guaranteed at signing. If the Seahawks wanted to move on from Smith in the offseason, they could have released or traded Smith without incurring too much of a cap penalty.
By keeping Smith on the roster through Friday, Seattle likely is committing to Smith as their starting quarterback for a third straight year. After breaking out in 2022, Smith took a step back in 2023 but still provided solid production as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback.
The 33-year-old recorded 3,624 passing yards with 20 touchdown passes and nine interceptions for Seattle, making his second straight Pro Bowl. Over the past two seasons, Smith has a 17-15 regular record as a starter for Seattle and started a playoff game during the 2022 season.
