Bears to Hire Jennifer King as Team’s First Female Coach, per Report

The Chicago Bears are bringing in the trailblazing former Washington Commanders assistant.

The Chicago Bears appear set to make a historic move.

For the first time in the organization’s 103-year existence, the Bears are poised to employ a female coach in 2024. Chicago is hiring Jennifer King as an assistant coach, according to a Tuesday afternoon report from Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

King, 39, has spent the past three years as an assistant running backs coach for the Washington Commanders. Upon her hiring on a full-time basis by the Commanders ahead of the 2021 season, she became the first Black female coach in NFL history.

Per Jones, King will work with the Bears’ running backs in ’24. The Bears ran for 2,399 yards in 2023, second in the league behind the Baltimore Ravens.

A former college basketball and softball player, King broke into the NFL in 2018 as an intern with the Carolina Panthers. She worked in the Alliance of American Football and for Dartmouth before interning with Washington in the 2020 season.
