It’s been a rocky road for the New York Giants with Daniel Jones

The team had high hopes when it selected the former Duke quarterback with the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL draft, but he’s been inconsistent under center for much of his time with the Giants.

Jones’s best season came in 2022, when he completed 67.2% of his passes for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdown passes to five interceptions.

The career year earned him a lucrative new contract, which the Giants apparently are regretting, if the buzz around the NFL scouting combine is to be believed. To wit, NFL Network’s Rich Eisen said he heard from multiple sources in Indianapolis that New York is “absolutely done” with Jones.

“No. 3 of the top five rumors I heard at the combine is the Giants are ‘absolutely done’ with Daniel Jones,” Eisen said on his Roku show Monday. “Done. Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it. And they feel … the words I heard at the combine, multiple times, the two words were ‘buyer’s remorse.’”

The Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract with another $35 million in potential incentives last offseason.

Jones was hampered by multiple injuries last season, but performed poorly when healthy in the first full year after signing his new contract. In six games, Jones completed 67.5% of his passes, but threw just two touchdown passes to six interceptions. That figure surpassed his total in 16 games the previous season.

It’s unclear whether the Giants will address the quarterback position in the draft next month, but the potential for New York to move on is real and could occur sooner rather than later.
