Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco’s stagnant career roared back to life last season, as he shocked the league by playing some of the best football of his career.

Now, the AP Comeback Player of the Year is poised to capitalize on his renaissance.

Flacco—set to become a free agent at the age of 39 on March 11—is seeking a new deal with the Browns, according to a Tuesday afternoon report from ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio.

“Per a league source, a reunion with the Browns is Flacco’s first choice,” Florio wrote. “He loves playing there—the team, the city, the fans, everything. The two sides met regarding the possibility last week, at the Scouting Combine.”

Signed Nov. 20 to shore up a Cleveland offense ravaged by injury, Flacco threw 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions in five games—four of which the Browns won en route to a playoff berth. The Houston Texans blew out Cleveland 45–14 in an AFC wild-card game, but Flacco’s cult hero status was assured.

With the Browns, Flacco would presumably serve as a backup to quarterback Deshaun Watson, whose 2023 season was ended by a shoulder injury.
