The Los Angeles Chargers shored up their offensive line at the 2024 NFL draft, selecting standout offensive tackle Joe Alt with the No. 5 pick of the first round. He's since been getting familiarized with his new surroundings after joining the organization, and that's included receiving some text messages from his new teammates.

Among those to reach out to Alt was franchise quarterback Justin Herbert, the rookie offensive tackle revealed. Alt admitted that Herbert kept things short and sweet with his message welcoming him to the team.

"Mr. Quarterback—his name is Justin—texted me," said Alt. "He said, 'My name is Justin and I play quarterback.'"

Alt and Herbert should get plenty more familiar as training camp arrives and the team's offseason program ramps up. After all, the former Notre Dame star was selected with the intention of providing Herbert with more protection, so it stands to reason that the franchise's star quarterback would reach out after the draft.

In addition to Herbert, Alt mentioned that fellow Los Angeles offensive tackle Rashawn Slater had contacted him since Thursday.

Alt was the first offensive lineman off the board in this year's draft. He'll be called upon to make a contribution right away as the Chargers look to turn things around with a new-look offense following the departures of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler during the offseason.
