Another cornerback addition for the 49ers as they look to solidify the position. This time it is a former second round pick who spent last season with the Ravens.

More competition has arrived at the cornerback position.

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they are signing former Baltimore Ravens corner Rock Ya-Sin. Here is a brief summarization of Ya-Sin's career thus far courtesy of the 49ers.

"Ya-Sin was originally drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round (34th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Throughout his five-year NFL career with the Colts (2019-21), Las Vegas Raiders (2022) and Baltimore Ravens (2023), he has appeared in 66 games (40 starts) and registered 193 tackles, 29 passes defensed, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In 2023, Ya-Sin appeared in 14 games (one start) and registered 12 tackles and two passes defensed with Baltimore. He also appeared in one postseason contest."

This is the third cornerback that the 49ers have signed since free agency started a month ago.
Ya-Sin, however, is in the same boat as Isaac Yiadom. Both players are most likely brought in for the 49ers to see who can be the best for them to earn a starting role. That way the 49ers can keep Deommodore Lenoir in the slot.

Ya-Sin was fairly promising when he first entered the league with the Colts, but never managed to ascend into that promise. Still, he is seasoned and could possibly squeak into the starting lineup if he can manage some high-level performances in training camp.

The continual additions at cornerback through free agency just goes to show how the 49ers want little to do with Ambry Thomas. Quite a shame considering he was fine when he was reinstalled as the starter in Week 9 of 2023.

Hopefully the 49ers manage to find their confident starter that they are comfortable with this offseason.
