Nick Bosa Doesn't Seem Impressed with Jordan Love
SANTA CLARA -- Nick Bosa won the Garry Niver Good-Guy Award with the media this season for a reason: If you ask him a straightforward question, he'll give you a straightforward answer.
This week, I asked him how to defend Packers quarterback Jordan Love. As always, Bosa essentially summarized the 49ers' defensive game plan to stop the opposing quarterback.
ME: What unique challenges does Jordan Love present and what's the key to defending him?
BOSA: "He's really good at going through his reads and playing the offense to a T. We definitely need to stop the run. I don't think many teams have made him uncomfortable yet, so stopping the run and covering up those easy, open guys is something we have to do."
Q: Do you look at love and see Brock Purdy a little bit?
BOSA: "I'd say so. I think they both go through their reads really smooth and they're accurate. I've seen more from Brock in terms of making plays, but we definitely have to be ready for him."
TRANSLATION: Love is a system quarterback. He operates the Packers' system efficiently, does exactly what he's coached to do and protects the football while the system makes his job relatively easy. The 49ers want to take away the run game and the easy throws and force Love to make difficult throws and tough plays to win the game. They think he can't do that.
Bosa apparently thinks Purdy is more of a playmaker than Love, which is an interesting thing to say on the record. Let's see who's a bigger playmaker this weekend.
