49ers Dodge a Bullet With Assistant GM Adam Peters

It looks like the potential of 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters leaving for the Texans is nothing more than hot air.
In this story:

Well, that was a close one.

Recently, there was a report/rumor that 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters could be headed to the Texans to become their new general manager. Houston's current general manager Nick Caserio was supposedly going to be relieved of his duties following the NFL draft.

That alone is a crazy idea. Why on earth would the Texans allow a general manger who is dead man walking make or be a part of the draft selections? In any case, Peters was the favorite to take up the mantle if Caserio ended up being let go. I'm assuming the familiarity with head coach DeMeco Ryans is what made it sensible.

However, Caserio on Apr. 17 nipped those rumors in the bud at a press conference.

"Quite frankly, I'm almost embarrassed I have to. I feel sort of like Leonardo DiCaprio in 'Wolf of Wall Street.' I'm not leaving," Caserio said Monday at a news conference. "There's never really been any substantive discussions of the sort."

The 49ers dodged a bullet with assistant general manager Peters. Losing him at this point in time would be fairly gut wrenching and arguably the biggest departure to the 49ers had it happened. Luckily for them it is nothing more than a scare at best.

Peters has been with the 49ers since 2017 and was brought in under Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch. He has spent the last two seasons as the assistant general manager. Prior to that, he was the vice president of player personnel. Plenty of Day 2 and 3 draft pick hits have been because of the Peters. He is a guy they must retain at all costs.
